Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant(notes) underwent successful surgery to repair his fractured right fibula this morning, according to Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News.
Bryant had a plate inserted to stabilize the bone, and the productive season the former Oklahoma State star has come to an end. He will be placed on injured reserve, likely this week. Bryant was injured returning a kickoff in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 38-35 overtime victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Bryant fell to the Cowboys, who made a move to snare him with the 24th pick in the first round. He suffered a high-ankle sprain at the start of training camp that cost him most of six weeks of action. But he returned in time to be a difference maker for the Cowboys as a return man and as a receiver. He finished with 45 receptions for 561 yards and six touchdowns and will no doubt be ready for a larger role next season
